1. Preparation

I did the vector of the kid in Flash and now I need to export it for later use in Illustrator, of course. Although Flash offers the option to export the image as a Illustrator *.ai file, I rarely do this, because it always seems to mess up my color setup. I either choose to export it as a *.bmp or *.png file to keep the quality loss at a minimum level.

In this case I exported it as a png-file with transparent background and placed it onto my Illustrator artboard. Since the boy is photographing something in the original photo, I thought it’s just logical to let him photograph someone in my vector painting, too.

Therefore, I switched over to Alias Sketchbook Pro and made a quick sketch of a torso of some random female. When I had my rough sketch finished, I went to sxc.hu to look for some stock imagery which I meant to use as references for the clothes. Back in Sketchbook Pro I finished the rough sketch, imported it into illustrator and set the final composition up.
