Flash 8: Physics Tutorial - Wave Motion
Old 2006-07-17

A lot of people are overwhelmed by physics when, in actual fact, once you get into the right way of thinking, the problems are usually quite easy to solve. This tutorial by Paul Lewis explains a water experiment.

Check out the tutorial here.

You're welcome to discuss the tutorial in this thread.

Fascinating stuff but I was not able to have it working, and I found out that the code for Wave.as on the website is different from the one in the Waveclass I have downloaded line 76. In any way i'll try again.

Can you tell me what code was different?

edit: ah, I see it. The code wasn't pasted properly into the tutorial. If you're getting an error on line 76/77 you'll see it is because the if statement isn't closed and should be:

ActionScript Code:
  1. if(u<this.mcParticles.length-1)

Sorry about that - will mention it to Hansen / nrg and see what we can do!

Paul

Oily wave -> oily blob?
Would be interesting to see if this idea could be extended to an "oily blob"...kind of like an interactive amoeba. Would require the particles to move in x and y away from a common center. My brain hurts even thinking about how to solve the math. Anyone out there got a clue on where to start?

I do, since I made the original. I will try and look at it over the weekend. It's actually very straight forward once you understand the wave

Hello people!
I'm trying to play around with this awesome piece of code!

Does anyone know if I could have two of those waves in one single movie?
Like for example in two water tanks separate from each other.
I tried with many ways but it seems that somehow those particles stay connected even if I attach them in different movie clips..

thanks

I think if you create a duplicate of the Wave.as file like Wave2.as, and change the linkage for the second set of waves, as well as what your doing. it should work.
