Lol he's been a lot of help to me when I started out learning php.

I started php back in early 2008 and now I'm on to more advanced things with php.

But it helps that I have a background in programming C/C++ and other languages.

I think the best way to learn is to sit down and create a full site (maybe your own portfolio) implementing as many "features" as you can. I find for me at least, the best way to learn is just to dive right into it and start experimenting with syntax.

and you could also check PHP titles at Lynda.com:
