How is this drop shadow effect done?
Old 2008-02-02

If you go to this website \\\ Garson™ - Restaurant management software /// and look at the logo, you'll notice the box thing has a drop shadow at the bottom. The interesting thing is that the drop shadow only appears at the left and right sides, and not in the middle. I've seen a fair bit of this around lately and It'd a really appealing effect over a standard drop shadow that goes all the way across. However, I don't know how to create it so it fades away. If anyone knows how it's done or if they could link me to a turorial, that'd be great, thanks.

Hey flashkicks..

It´s very easy to accomplish this look..

Either in flash or photoshop:
-create a layer under your logo or whatever
-draw lines and fill the way you want the shadow to appear
-play around with blur and alpha to get your desired result

you can not acheive this effect using flash-filters dropShadow
you have got to do it manually

piece of cake

OOOkay? I didn't really understand step 2 or three. Like I can't visualize it. A tutorial would really help if you could fine one. I tried finding one earlier, but it's sortta hard to say exactly what it is.

*Edit, nevermind, I found a tutorial.

Very easy. I'm sure there are 1,000 ways to do it but this is how I would make it.

1 Make the shape.
2 Dublicate the shape and fill it with black.
3 Gausian Blur the shape at about 3 pixels.
4 Place the blurred shape underneath the original red shape and offset it the way you want.
5 Use the erase tool to delete the part you don't want and adjust the opacity.
6 This is just the blurred shape after I erased part of it.

Hope this helps
