I like the site, design is similar to what fi has on their blog, the player had a few bugs when changing to big size and fullscreen tho.

I had the same problem here Anik and agree with your comments designwise. There are some very nice videos up there for sure! Congrats on the new project Rob, nice work.

Yeah I like the site as well and I think the FiV platform is really nice but still needs some work I also had issues with the fullscreen feature and other stuff like the streaming of the videos isn't working very well and the back button or deep linking doesn't seem to be working at all.

I've already installed the latest version of FlashPlayer on my browser. but every time I try to view the website it asks me to install the flashplayer9 and then nothing happens. Does anyone else have this problem?

It is a nice application but I don't think that it deserves all of fuss and praise it appears to be getting. Look past the "designer labels" and it is just a video player with a bit of extra functionality thrown into the mix.

It would be more impressive if it was an AIR application.

"video platform" .. honestly Fi has to stop using those big words ... a team consistes of two people a designer and a developer can do something like that in 2-3 weeks if not less !!

That is basically what I said on the Think Swedish blog, although I said one week or less for a competent designer and programmer.

The "platform" is getting some very bad feedback though, mainly due to the number of bugs in the application. So much for Fi Quality.. or FIQ.. or FiQ.. or whatever it is now. I feel a bit sorry for the FWA though because the problems with the app are going to reflect badly on them as well as Fi.

I reported a few bugs on their blog, and iam amazed how can they release a Video Platform with bugs in the video player.

I also believe Fi should start being a bit more humble and not call everything they do a platform etc.

I can't find any bugs here..

I think their big words and chest-beating are working just fine for them For the people shouting "I could do this in a week!", why didn't you?

Because it can take a week to develop but months for coming up with the idea and years of experience with user-centered design ...that's why

I willing to bet that if you found a top-notch designer and a top-notch AS programmer who knows Flex/MXML, they could create something like FiV within eight days. One day to work out the features/functionality, one day to box-out the interface design for the main GUI and CMS, and the remaining days for the graphics and code creation. All of the layout flow, button functionality, drag and drop functionality, scrollbar functionality, video playback functionality, tooltip functionality, tab bar functionality, etc etc, has already been done and is available in the Flex framework.

Maybe no one has created something like FiV before because no one has been asked to develop something like FiV before, although saying that, how many Flash video players do you think are already out there?. It isn't a question of "why didn't you", it is a question of "why didn't you ask for it to be developed".

Anyway, all of that aside, I still think a big fuss is being made over a glorified video player. Take Fi and FWA out of the equation and there is no way it would be getting as much attention/hype as it is getting.

i think we can all agree on that last part of your post nutrox

"Take Fi and FWA out of the equation and there is no way it would be getting as much attention/hype as it is getting."

But with that said, that´s what branding is all about, FI have spent alot of energy and time on building their brand so even when they release things like this it turns out big and that goes for every well known agency out there.

Seems like we have a challenge in this thread, so who will be the first to produce a similar solution to fi´s video platform and hand it over to the community?

Ah yes, as for bugs i actually didnt encounter any besides the drag and drop not working.

Since everybody seems to be finding different/new bugs I'm guessing they are still working on the platform and tweaking stuff here and there.

Yar, I think that is the main problem I have with things like this, it amazes me that so many people can't see past a brand name. Automatically giving product X a load of praise just because company X developed it seems ridiculous to me.

Thanks for posting our new site Peter!

I've been reading this thread with interest and was determined not to rise to it but I can't stop myself.

Nutrox, I don't know what your beef is with FWA and Fi but I regularly see you bleating on about either or both given the chance.

This site is for FWA's users and they are enjoying it. We have done well over 200,000 video streams in a week and 2TB of very fast Akamai bandwidth.

Why is it that people want to tear everything down here these days? I have been a member at Ultrashock for years and always found it to be a positive place with a good vibe yet recently all I see is Nutrox jumping over almost every thread with gloom. Seriously man, take a chill pill. We are trying to give people something to enjoy. If you don't like what we are doing, do us all a favour and don't visit our sites.

Sorry for the rant guys and hope at least some of you enjoy what we do!

I don't have any "beef" with either FWA or Fi. If I like something I will say so, if I don't like something I will say so, regardless of which companies are involved. The focus of my replies in this thread has been FiV as a product, not FWA, and it is just personal opinion.

Pretty slick UI. As I mentioned in the Fi blog, this should be the direction YouTube moves toward as far as usability with the Flash video player.

@ Fav, not everyone has to be smitten with the work of Fi. It's ok to be critical. Nutrox's comments have substance behind them.

@ Nutrox, the FiV "platform" isn't a product, it's a service. I questioned what exactly the FiV product is on their blog and someone from Fi confirmed it's a platform that can be modified by Fi's design team.
