A bit off topic: 2Advanced & Adobe will have an open discussion this week on the future of After Effects, especially on the integration with Flash. All input is welcome here.

Save 32-bit HDR and 16-bit color values in Adobe Photoshop® files. Text remains editable, and layers, common layer styles, blending modes, masks, and transparency are all preserved when Photoshop files are imported as compositions. Use Photoshop paths as masks or animation paths.
Common layer styles are preserved, but I also guess you can't edit them like you are used to in Photoshop... too bad.

Ok, anyone know whether they've thought about dual monitor users? I know as of 6.5, you couldn't drag most of the panels outside the main program window...

Seriously... take a tour: http://www.adobe.com/products/aftere...cts_movie.html

lol, I wonder what the system requirements are for AE7.
Probably require a blazing fast high-end PC.

Looks hella good though.

Edit*

Btw, the guy in that video talks about watching the workflow section first. Where is the workflow section?

I think he's referring to the workflow section in the Adobe Total Training video series.

Boy, have I been waiting for this release! Just bought it online.

Had this problem with AE 6.5 for Mac, in Tiger the keyboard shortcuts didn't work if I did not have an American keyboard. So I had to switch my preferences each time using AE, quite a mess...

Looking forward for the new interface, the graph editor, timewarp, OpenGL support , lens blur, etc. Feel a bit crazy. Crazy high expectations.

they say in the new features that it has a new FLV exporter in it...does anyone know if this means the On2 codec is comming defualt with AE7, and will it work through Quicktime still so that it can be used in other apps, or will I still have to have flash installed or the codec from On2 for the exporter to work

Big news from Steve Kilisky's After Effects Blog:
the After Effects 7.0 Pro tryouts are available!

You can access the tryouts here: Mac and Win.

The tryouts are fully functional for 30 days after installation.

Well this program is wicked cool. The time warp thing is interesting. It uses motion vectors to interpolate frames and apparently you need high quality original footage to get this to work properly. I made the mistake of using already compressed web video as my first test and the result was really odd, hehe.

Like NRG said, you can undock, redock and rearrange every panel it has to your liking and save whatever you happen to like as a preset.

Haven't been able to get the video card needed to support the OpenGL 2 features (Nvidia 6800+), so that'll have to wait. The ability to change the workspace tone is great!

Some of the presets are really cool to mess with too. They are added to a project like a plug-in and can be tweaked to your liking. My only issue is I'm getting some errors on some of them even though the Cycore stuff is installed.

Can't wait to see how people put this new stuff to use!

Has anyone had any issues with installing and starting on Mac 10.4? A coworker can't seem to get the app started at all, it crashes after opening every time.

I bought and recieved my version of AE 7.0 Pro for Mac. It works great. Except that the application or any aliases made from it cannot be dragged to the dock. Weird?

That is weird...

We installed on my Mac, all is fine. The second mac is the one having issues.

I suppose then I should wonder, can you only install on one machine? I thought 2 would be the limit...

Mactel & After Effects faq, by Steve Kilisky:
1. We plan to release a Universal version of After Effects.
2. We are not planning to release a Mactel version of After Effects 7.0
3. The transition requires a major development effort, not just for us, but our 3rd party partners (plug-ins as an example).
4. We are not aware of any known issues running After Effects 7.0 using Rosetta, however in most cases user will not see any performance improvements and are likely to see performance degradation.

I got my upgrade few days ago (impressive shipping time - less than a day) and so far I'm really impressed about the big step they made with that version... the timeing was perfect 'cause I'll start couple of projects next week.

Its about time they updated the interface. It was unusable before. Still think it is lacking in some areas. But a vast improvement. Its particle system isn't as sophisticated as say the shake/motion system and neither is the workflow but still a lot better.
