large video problem - no show

I have a 1 hr 20 min video - I import to flash, as web streaming, and it ends up as an flv around 300 MB - It's big I know - when I publish the .fla it works fine locally - just an html page with a swf that loads the flv - but if I put it on a server, even on our local LAN - it comes up with either "Done." or "Transferring Data from (server) " - and the screen is either empty or when I hover, I get "click to activate control" and when I do - nothing happens - just a blank screen.

I see lots of long videos on google, youtube - can anyone give me pointers on how to publish long video?
