other - Flash Fullscreen mode text input problems
Old 2009-05-24

Hi!

I was wondering if there is a way to enter text on a textinput or textfield when flashplayer is on fullscreen mode. As far as I have read Flash player 10 has a security restriction to not allow that.

Any ideas?

thanks!

Polaco.
a great community.

As far as i know, there is no way because like you said...that's one of Flash Player limitations but maybe there is some sort of hack to bypass that but somehow i doubt there is :/

Cheers,
Mirko

Uhh!. Why Adobe it's limitating a lot the aplications usability in such way?!. What harm could do? If they are afraid about security issues like phishing they could display an alert when switching modes.
I have found this where people is asking for it: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php...ll-Screen_Mode.
I wonder how Adobe thinks that people can develop rich internet aplications with no keyboard availability on fullscreen.
There is already the limitation that the player can't enter fullscreen without a user action. That and a message should be enough. The same phishing could be done with a player in normal mode. Come on! . What a chickens!
What a deception!!! Depressing!

"Flash Player 9 does not allow keyboard input when displaying content in full-screen mode. Flash Player 10 changes this, allowing for a limited number of keys to be usable in full-screen mode. These include Tab, the Spacebar, and the (up, down, left, right) arrow keys."

Adobe are overly security conscious, I'm not saying that is a bad thing but I think they should ease up a little. The full potential of AIR is also being restricted by a wall of unnecessary security. Adobe are either covering their ass for legal reasons or they think the vast majority of end-users are incredibly stupid. Flash Player and AIR are both top-notch technologies but Adobe seem to be making some big common-senseless mistakes as far as the APIs and code libraries go. Flash Player 10 is a complete mess (and pretty much a complete waste of time) and there is no way for Adobe to step back and try again, future Flash Player versions have to inherit a legacy of crap.

Hmmm, that was a bit of a rant, sorry about that. It just annoys me that Adobe are screwing up such a great technology. They always have the option of rebuilding and rebranding the Flash Player though, that is something I would wholeheartedly support.

Totally agree with you Nutrox. They are restricting the potential of what they have. It's unbelivable how they are wasting it dominant position on the market and screwing the player with so many stupid things. It would be really a pity to see the flash player being surpassed by MS Silverlight or others.
I guess this is could be more a bad corporate decisions rather than development team problems.
Really a no sense. The kind of things that sometimes happens when managers that are not really involved on the development process takes decitions and no one has the guts to tell them that they are wrong.
Also one can still do things with a messy API but what can you do against this kind of intentional restrictions? it's like hitting a wall.

Do you think would be some way to ask them this in order to them reconsider it since they seem to have included it on AIR?

"Note: App content in AIR can set the value of stage.displayState to StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE for full keyboard support in full-screen mode."

I think the only thing we can realistically do as far as Flash Player functionality is concerned is to submit a feature request to Adobe. I gave up using that after a while though.

As far as I see this Adobe bug system implements a votation process to decide which issue they give priority. So maybe if we make ultrashock users to vote for it we could make us hear.

my request:
https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-2112
another similar:

I wonder what has this man "Ryan" told to nrg when he mailed him all the cool and common sense ideas that has already been posted in this thread..

Flash Player 9 full screen, disabled inputs: why?

I just can't believe who could take this kind of s@up!d decisions.
I guess that if Adobe were a motor company would make a super sport car with a v8 engine 4.0litres but with a maximun speed limitation of 60km/h. Oh! and a big parachute at the back just in case.
