Welcome back Nico

I took a quick peek at the many screenshots: you have one sexy app there, so I couldn't resist signing up.

I saw your widget demo before at Multi-Mania Kortrijk, but this outblows it for sure.

Awesome work!

That link is extremely slow for me Nico but from what I can see it looks very nice.

outblows

I have a new word to express myself now!

I know my host has suffered from attacks lately, their looking into that.

Didn't notice you there at multi-mania peter, we should have drink next time

v2 is still coming, in full Flex force, but you know how it goes with bugs & memory issues when you create a monster.

BTW, I didn't know Google Analytics had an API, so how do you manage to 'legally' get the requested information?

Google Analytics doesn't have an API indeed, i wrote one myself
It uses the same services the online version uses. It took me about 4 months to document them but I nailed it eventually

I like your new site Nico, what happened to the grey/green one you had? That was quite a cool design for us night-owl coders.

The Analytics app is looking very nice by the way. Will you be releasing it as 1.0 as soon as AIR hits 1.0?

The app will have to be free though, otherwise this thread will be classed as self promotion and will need to be binned.

Yup, the release was planned along with AIR 1.0 but it's a bit of a setback that AIR got pushed back. If PDF integration improves in the next beta I might release it sooner.

And yes, it's going to be free.

D'oh! I didn't know AIR has been pushed back.

Oh well, it will be worth the wait. Even after playing around with the beta I have decided to drop Zinc as soon as AIR 1.0 is released. The fact that AIR runs as fast as the native Flash Player puts a big smile on my face.

How does AIR handle your app by the way Nico, have you run into any performance/memory problems?

Nico Nico is offline 2007-08-27 #15 Old
Performance is awesome, it now runs at 60 fps on windows and about 40 fps on mac.

I did had to do a lot of tweaking;
Transparency is to be avoided for full screen apps. You have to use deferred creation if you want a steady and stable performance and avoid the flex containers if you can, extend uicomponent whenever you can.

I still have to do memory optimization so no comments on that yet

Have you tried mProjector? I heard it was better than Zinc.

Yeah I've tried a few different SWF wrappers but their performance seems no better than the browser plugin (I guess they all use the Flash OCX). General file read/write access, full screen mode, and performance as good as the native Flash Player is something I have been waiting for for years now, and AIR provides that.

I hope Adobe sort out the installation process a bit though, it seems a bit tacked-on at the moment. There is always NSIS though but unfortunately it is for Windows only.

Hey Nico,

I'm interested in having a look at this very cool project of yours but I'm getting an error during installation:

This application requires a version of Adobe AIR which is no longer supported.
I'm running AIR v1.0.5.5+

Did you guys uninstall the previous version of AIR before installing the latest version?

I've just tried installing Nico's app and didn't run into any problems with it, I'm running AIR Beta 2 (1.0.5.5).

Ah that could be it. I did cancel half way through the installation of the new version so I could uninstalled the old one before installing the new one

I've uninstalled and reinstalled and get the same issue. Anybody know what keys in the reg I need to scrub?

You would think Adobe would test to prevent this type of issue.

Did get it installed in the end, and I agree, great piece of work!

I also heard you presented it at MAX Barcelona this month! Well done Nico, sorry I missed it. Will you have the slides up at some point?

@mike; yeah I presented at chicago and barcelona. This slides will be up on my blog pretty soon.

@champ; I wrote a custom actionscript 3 API that uses the same resources as the online ajax version

cheers!

Yo, Nico.

Seeing as you are here I thought I would just say I think your app is top-notch, I use it on a daily basis at moment.

Any idea when the 1.0 version will be released?

Apart from the window auto-resizing (which I'm not keen on) everything seems very solid, I can't remember running into any serious bugs anyway.

Hey Nico,

I am not able to install this. I am using the AIR Beta 3 that was released on 12/12/2007. Has it been tested against this release?

I imagine they are waiting for AIR 1.0 to be released (shouldn't be too long now) before they update the application again. This is what happens when people use beta products for commercial development.
