Question about being a hosting reseller
Old 2008-03-04

Hi, are there any hosting resellers out there? I'm not looking for the service but advice on offering the service?

Do you make your clients sign a hosting contract of some sort? How do you let them know you're not responsible for any money lost if the server goes down?

How do you make yourself not responsible if someone brings a lawsuit your way but still sound like your responsible for offering good hosting?

I'm not really looking to go big with this, mainly just my clients, friends and a few charaties.

Any tips or help anyone can offer would be great.
Thanks.

Make sure you have a terms of service agreement which covers you for the things you mentioned. You don't need to have them sign something, but you do need to make them aware that by using the service they are agreeing to the TOS (which you should insist they read).

As long as they've agreed to it, and you have proof, you should be held responsible.

Hope that helps,

David.

I'm looking to get a VPS (Virtual Private Server) do you use that, is it hard for a novice to figure out?

I don't use a VPS, but i shouldn't imagine it's too hard to get your head around. I'd imagine the system will have relevant software installed, and there will be documentation provided.

But, like i say, i don't use a VPS so i can't really give any first hand advice. Sorry.
