I can’t believe there have been no posts about Silverlight’s new Deep Zoom feature!
If you haven’t seen it already, check out Hard Rock Memorabilia

I want to make my own multi-scale image interface, and I’ve been researching how to do it, in Silverlight and Flash.

In Silverlight, there are barely any complete tutorials, and none that are official. I did find this Silverlight Deep Zoom tutorial, which seems to summarize the process pretty well. Unfortunately, I know diddily squat about .NET or Visual Studio or whatever, so I’m clawing through the dark trying to figure it out (it doesn’t seem *all* that complicated, though)...

On the Flash side of things, I know this zoom navigation concept has been around for a while (Harlem 13 Gigapixels is a very cool execution). I found Zoomorama.com, which is the same idea as Deep Zoom. However, they keep you tied onto their site and their branding.

Has anyone had experience or know how to bring about a Hard Rock Memorabilia style site within Flash?

Lee Brimlow did a piece on this on his blog (http://theflashblog.com/?p=351). There’s a whole discussion along with if from both Flash and Silverlight developers. Worth reading, check it out.

Some high res images and actionscript are Flash’s answer to that. How lame to call it a new technology. It’s in fact inferior to what you can do in Flash as they admit it may not work right on a mac yet.

Hmmmm, broke it in about a minute! IE8 beta in IE7 mode, just kept zooming in and then you can’t zoom out again and whole thing stops working! Ha,
Isn’t it just Zoomifyer? which has been around for 8 years, but badly executed??

just my 2cents smilie
