Hey Guys, have you ever happen to see how they apply different effects on images on picnik.com ?

Take a look at the link, upload an image and play around with the effects! I thought about some of them and yes, I managed to at least imagine how they might have done it in AS3 but I have no idea about some others! have you? just for an example how on earth have they made a so good looking “Pencil Sketch” effect like that?!

The classes which I can think of for image effects are ColorTransform, flash.filters…

let me hear what you think about those image effects? smilie let’s guess the tech they are using on different effects…

Have a look at the ConvolutionFilter. A simple “sketch” effect can be applied like this…

var v:Number = 15; // higher number = more effect
var m:Array = [ -v, v, v, -v, v, 0, -v, v, 0 ];
var f:ConvolutionFilter = new ConvolutionFilter( 3, 3, m, 9 );

displayObject.filters = [ f ];

Oh my God, how beatiful! Does that mean that we can also create those custom blur effects (similar to fast zooming blur) with just these filter classes we have?

Am I correct to say that the only way to find the effect that I’m looking for is to try different matrix numbers and see how it may look?

So brilliant… I’m falling in more love with AS3!

I wonder if there’s any website who have given some ready settings to get me going even faster…?

Just searching for the keyword “ConvolutionFilter” is giving me a thousand tutorials, etc, etc. So exciting smilie
